The Audubon City Council is initiating steps to convert their quarterly water billing cycle to a monthly one. According to City Clerk, Joe Foran, there are more than 1,000 water meters connected to the municipal water system. He says the current system is time consuming and an upgrade is long overdue.

If those meters are replaced, it will allow for bills to be sent monthly and be more in line with residents’ other bills. City officials anticipate letting bids on the meter replacement contract sometime in October or November. Foran says they expect work to begin shortly after the bids are awarded.

The meter replacement is part of an estimated $3.2 million to $3.5 million upgrade to the city’s water systems. Foran says swapping out the dated hardware is just one small part of what is to come.

There is not a definitive timeline for when all this work will be completed, but Foran says he hopes customers will be paying their water bills monthly by August of 2019.
