Jefferson Teenager Arrested After High-Speed Chase Monday

A teenager is in custody after leading authorities on a high-speed chase Monday night throughout the east side of Jefferson. At approximately 5:24 p.m., a Jefferson Police Officer on routine patrol spotted an unregistered dirt bike operating illegally on the roadway in the 400 block of East McKinley Street. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver took off at a high rate of speed. A second officer also attempted to stop the bike, but a short pursuit ensued. The chase ranged from McKinley to the city park, on the Raccoon Valley Bike Trail and down to East Garfield Street. The pursuit ended when the driver reached South Mulberry Street and the drive chain on the motorcycle broke. At that point, the 17-year-old male dismounted and was arrested without further incident. He is being charged with eluding, a serious misdemeanor, interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, reckless driving, a non-scheduled violation, and operating a non-registered vehicle and no valid driver’s license, both scheduled violations. The Greene County Sheriffs’ Office assisted with the chase.
