Iowa’s Lt. Gov., Adam Gregg, was appointed to the position in May of 2017, after Kim Reynolds became the first acting female governor in the state’s history. Now that the team is seeking a full term in the Nov. 6 mid-term general election, Gregg talks of initiatives that have been started and that they are looking to carry into the future for the benefit of all Iowa’s residents. Gregg says one of the programs he is most proud to have been a part of during his short tenure is one that addresses two key economic factors, workforce development and the education and retention of Iowa’s youth.
The Future Ready Iowa program is designed to help Iowans get two year degrees or technical training to fill high-need, skilled jobs across the state. The Lt. Gov. says that residents can expect to hear a lot of “doom and gloom” predicted during the upcoming campaign cycle, particularly about education. However, he says they have never been more committed to funding quality education, and he wants to make sure that people are hearing the facts.
Our young people are the future, Gregg says. He has two young children, Gov. Reynolds has nine grandchildren and another on the way and they want the best for them.
Even though Gregg says they are going to be battling through this election for the next 90 days or so, they are still focused on the future and looking ahead to the next legislative session. He says their continued investment in education, job training, mental health and tax reform as well as implementing the Rural Iowa initiative will present both opportunities and challenges in the coming months. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on Gregg’s position on these and other topics in upcoming broadcasts.
