Two Carroll men were arrested on public intoxication charges Friday night after one of the men allegedly attempted to give away a child. According to court records, the Carroll Police Department responded to Casey’s East in the 500 block of Highway 30 at approximately 9 p.m. on a report of two intoxicated males at the location. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement witnessed 29-year-old James Semaj McQueen and 40-year-old Darwin Jay Robinson in the parking lot with two children and a stroller. An officer spoke with the men about the incident and noted they exhibited slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and had the odor of alcohol on their person. Beer was also located in the bottom carrier of the stroller. McQueen told police the reported attempt to give away the child was only a joke. After refusing a preliminary breath test, McQueen and Robinson were arrested and transported to the Carroll County jail on a charge ofpublic intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. The children’s’ mother was contacted and they were placed in her care. At approximately 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, McQueen was arrested for public intoxication a second time, after being found asleep on the floor of a restroom at Sparky’s Convenience Store in the 1500 block of Plaza Drive.
