Carroll Merchants Park Project Is Finalist In League Of Cities Competition, But They Need Your Vote

It is down to the final two in the Iowa League of Cities People’s All-Star Tournament. Carroll’s Merchants Park restoration is going head-to-head with the rebuilding of the Seymour school after being heavily damaged by an EF-2 tornado on March 6, 2017. The competition has now moved to a Facebook vote, with the project receiving the most “Likes” being crowned the winner. Voting is open now and will remain so until noon on Thursday, Sept. 13. A link to submit your vote can be found below. The winner will receive a trophy for display at city hall, recognition at the 2019 Annual Conference and Exhibit, features in the League magazine and Cityscape and recognition on the League’s website. These two projects were selected out of all entries from like-sized communities based on their impact in meeting needs, their value to the residents, how many people were affected and their longevity. They were also judged on originality, cost-effectiveness and use of inter-government collaboration and innovation. The $900,000 Merchants Park renovation project was christened with the season-opener game on Friday, June 2, 2017. The 69-year-old semi-pro baseball field is now home to the Carroll Merchants baseball team in the Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League as well as the home field for Carroll and Kuemper High Schools.
