Registration is now open for the 2018 Carroll County Pheasants Forever Youth Pheasant Hunt. On Saturday, Oct. 20, hunters between the ages of 12 and 15 and that have completed a hunter education course are invited to join in a four-hour free hunt at the AVAD Hunt Club on Highway 141 between Coon Rapids and Dedham. Starting at 8 a.m., participants will meet at the club for coffee, juice, donuts and will be assigned a guide. From 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., volunteers will review safety guidelines and briefly shoot trap. The hunt begins at 9 a.m. and continues until 12:30 p.m., with a half-hour break at 10:30 a.m. Once finished, hunters will meet back at the club for lunch. There is no cost to take part in the youth hunt, but participants do need to provide their own shotgun, ammunition and DNR habitat stamp. Organizers note that hammerlock guns are not allowed. Interested individuals do need to register and sign a waiver prior to the hunt. A link to those forms can be found included below.
