Prosecutors have brought formal charges against a Carroll man accused of taking a vehicle from a repair shop without permission. On Tuesday, trial information was filed against 37-year-old Joshua Merle Stout in Carroll County District Court on one count of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charge stems from an incident on July 20 at Jerry’s Auto Service in the 300 block of East 6th Street. According to the Carroll Police Department, Stout was seen on video at approximately 11:36 p.m. getting into a vehicle and driving away. The car was found parked at another Carroll business and recovered. If found guilty of the charge, he faces a maximum of $6,250 in fines and up to two years in prison. Stout’s next appearance is scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 11 for an arraignment hearing at the Carroll County Courthouse.
