The Raccoon River Conference will be expanding with the addition of two central Iowa districts. The decision to add or remove members is up to the principals and activity directors from the existing conference schools. Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, says they were approached recently by several applicants looking to join.
Lein and Activities Director, Randy Bissen, both supported allowing all four schools to join. Lein says there was not a lot of discussion on why Greene County and Nevada were not approved, but he believes size was likely a contributing factor.
North Polk and Gilbert will officially become a part of the conference in the 2020-21 school year. Lein says he is glad to welcome those schools, but he notes Carroll officials would be wise to keep their options open.
While not necessary for the two schools to join, Lein did ask the board to approve a resolution backing their admittance. That vote passed with four in favor and one, Brad Jorgensen, against. He indicated the only reason he opposed the resolution was because he wanted all four schools added to the Raccoon River Conference.
