Residents of Harlan and Atlantic were injured in an accident in Adair County Sunday night. The Iowa State Patrol reports that at approximately 8:37 p.m. they were called to the scene on Interstate 80, near the Menlo exit. Upon arrival, they learned that a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 48-year-old Mark Vandenberg of Harlan, had struck a cable in the median, and the vehicle had come to rest partially blocking a segment of the left lane. A 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by 28-year-old Nicholas Kern of Atlantic, was traveling in the left lane when they came upon the Vandenburg vehicle. Kern was unable to change lanes and struck the Impala. Both vehicles were spun into the cable barriers and both drivers were transported for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Vandenberg was taken to the Guthrie County Hospital and Kern to Greenfield.
