In a strange occurrence, state and Greene County authorities were notified of the possible shooting of the nation’s iconic aviary symbol, a bald eagle. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office reports they entered into an investigation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) after notified at approximately 1:19 p.m. Tuesday afternoon about the dead eagle found near 255th Street and P Avenue, southeast of Jefferson. However, it was determined there was no foul play and that the eagle had hit a power line.
