Fall Open-Burning Season Begins Saturday In Denison

The City of Denison has announced the fall open-burning season starts this weekend. Beginning on Saturday, Nov. 3, residents will be able to dispose of yard waste through supervised burns. According to the city’s ordinance, burns must be conducted between sunrise and sunset and cannot be completed on any public street, sidewalk or curb. Officials encourage residents to use an abundance of caution when disposing of organic material in this manner. They recommend participants clear a 10-foot-wide area around the chosen site and remove all flammable material from within that region. To prevent the fire’s unintentional spread, the city reminds residents to avoid burning on windy days, to monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished and to keep water and tools nearby in the event the fire escapes. Only yard waste, such as sticks and leaves, are permitted and burning garbage and treated wood is strictly prohibited. An alternative disposal site can be found on South Main Street in Denison.  The fall open-burning season ends Sunday, Nov. 11 at sunset.
