Simultaneous demolition projects are underway at the Carroll Public Library and the former Commercial Savings Bank building on North Adams Street that will house the new Carroll City Hall. Carroll Broadcasting was recently granted a tour of both locations, and City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says that demolition was pretty close to completed at the city hall site, but they had a bit more yet to do at the library.
Phase two, when the construction crews start putting the pieces back together, is expected to get underway sooner rather than later. Pogge-Weaver says there are not a lot of structural changes to the former library area, but that type of work is needed for other parts of the Farner Government Building.
At the former bank location, one of the most time-consuming processes is the removal of the public vault.
Between the construction, plumbing and electrical crews, he estimates there are 12 to 15 workers at each site every day. Pogge-Weaver adds that they have not come across anything that was a “scary” unexpected surprise during demolition. There will be a few changes, but well within the expected scope of pre-construction estimates and costs. Photos of the progress on both projects can be found below.
