At the beginning of this week, the Storm Lake Fire Department announced they had taken delivery of two new fire vehicles, a general purpose pumper truck and quick attack fire truck. The brand new vehicles were designed and built specifically for the department by Breda-based Toyne, Inc., a manufacturer of fire apparatus vehicles used around the nation. Toyne worked with firefighters for about 24 months to plan, budget and then manufacture the two trucks, which came in under the $700,000 budget at $661,337. As of the end of this week, both trucks will be fully equipped and in service. These two new purchases replace a 37-year-old pumper and a 32-year-old quick attack. The department wants to thank the city administration, elected officials and residents of the community for funding and supporting the acquisition of the vehicles.
