Early Morning Fire Destroys Dedham Tire And Auto Repair

Dedham Volunteer Fire Chief, Pat Sporrer, says there were likely 75 firefighters in all coming together to fight an early morning blaze in town. The call came in at about 2:30 a.m., reporting the fire at the former Dedham Tire and Auto on the corner of 2nd Street and 4th Avenue. Around 24 of those firefighters on scene were from the Dedham Department, and when they arrived, they found the warehouse part of the building totally engulfed in flames.

With tires and other flammable items inside the structure and because of the nature of the fire itself, the firefighters took immediate action to protect others.

Support crews also helped bring in water from a nearby source.

The deed holder on the property is Michael Peter, but Sporrer says the business had closed down about two to three weeks ago. The fire was contained at approximately 6 a.m., but at the time of this interview, around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sporrer was still at the site as the remains are smoldering. He estimates they may do so for the next couple of days. Right now, for the safety of all, a portion of Olympic Avenue has been closed down.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Sporrer says the State Fire Marshal will be coming to conduct an investigation and make the final determination.
