This coming Saturday, Dec. 1, the community of Coon Rapids will be kicking off the holiday season with their annual Christmas in a Small Town event. One of the many organizers behind this popular day, Jes Leighty, says there is something for everyone on Saturday afternoon and into the evening.
There will also be a second-grade bake sale fundraiser to help with their trip to Missouri. This will be hosted at the American Legion, where there is a soup supper—that could turn into a lucky dinner for some.
There are four photography shoots, restaurant packages, gift certificates from Whiterock Conservancy, spa packages, gas cards, Coon Bucks and more. The Dickens’ Village Museum will also be offering something new this year, showcasing over 60 village sets. The tree lighting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street, where all prize winners will be announced. Then at 7 p.m., at the Raccoon River Social Club, The Pale Moons, featuring Chad Elliott, will be performing. Leighty says the committee has been working on this project for months.
She adds they are blessed with so much community support. There will be shopping opportunities all day with the kids’ crafts leading the rest of the events at 3 p.m. A full list of all the activities can be found at www.coonrapidsiowa.com.
