The Carroll and Sac County Conservation Boards’ annual visit to the Sax-Zim Bog is a little more than a month away, and registration is still open for people interested in signing up. Each year, Naturalist, Matt Wetrich, leads a group to Minnesota to experience the native flora and fauna. This year’s trip will be from Jan. 11 to Jan. 14, and Wetrich says there is a limited amount of time left for people to get their name on the list.
A certain number of people need to sign up every year to make the trip happen, and they are about two-thirds of the way to their goal. Wetrich says the excursion is designed for birdwatchers, but it really is an all-around outdoor experience.
Wetrich adds another great thing about the trip to Sax-Zim Bog is that it is very cost-effective when compared to for-profit companies. He says they just try to make everything come out even.
The cost ranges between $475 to $600 per person depending on if they want to have a solo room or are willing share one with another guest. Wetrich says it makes a perfect Christmas gift for a people who are hard to buy for.
