Officials in Lake City are excited to welcome a new officer to the Lake City Police Department. At a meeting on Monday, Dec. 3, the city council approved the hiring of Dylan Forkner, who is currently a senior in the Criminal Justice program at Grand View University in Des Moines. Forkner will still need to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy to get his certification, but he says that will not be an issue as it ties into his final semester of school.

He is originally from Paton and graduated from Greene County High School in 2014. A previous candidate for the Lake City position withdrew his name from consideration before the hiring process was completed. Forkner says he is fortunate that he managed to find a job straight out of college and that it is so close to his home town.

When he starts, Forkner will be the youngest member of the department. He says his education in criminal justice has him more than ready for the job.

Forkner officially starts with department on Dec. 17 and will attend the 15-week academy in April. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
