Carroll Police Vehicle Suffers Damage When Suspect Leaves Vehicle In Gear And Flees On Foot

Early on Thursday morning, while pursuing a suspect fleeing from authorities, a Carroll Police Department vehicle was struck. The incident started as officers attempted to pull over a speeding white 2007 Nissan Maxima at the intersection of Bluff and West Streets at approximately 1:34 a.m. Instead of stopping, the driver pulled into a residence and fled the vehicle on foot. In his haste, however, he neglected to put the Maxima in park and it rolled backwards, hitting the cruiser and causing an estimated $2,000 in damage. Although the subject was not found at the location, he has been identified as 28-year-old Israel Godinez-Escalona of Des Moines. Charges are pending for interference with official acts, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.
