An Attorney For Two Of Three Denison City Officials Placed On Administrative Leave Provides Reasons For Special Investigation

Although there has been no official confirmation on why three Denison city employees were placed on administrative leave, an attorney working on behalf of two of them says a probe involves a training tool, a raise and benefits. Mark Sherinian is the attorney for City Clerk, Lisa Koch, and City Manager, Terry Crawford, two of the three placed on leave Dec. 18 by Mayor Jared Beymer. Fire Chief Cory Snowgren was the third. The city council then voted four in favor, with Councilman John Granzen, Sr., against, on Dec. 21 to hire a Des Moines law firm, BrownWinick, to conduct an investigation. However, this past Tuesday, a large contingent of Denison residents were present at the council meeting to call for the reinstatement of all three city officials. It was a unanimous vote of the council to reinstate Snowgren, but a four to one vote, with Councilman Corey Curnyn against, on the motion for Koch and Crawford. Although Snowgren’s status was reinstated without any special stipulations, Koch and Crawford were only brought back after agreeing to not speak about the investigation. However, Sherinian did comment, saying this case revolves around expenses incurred for a change to the roof of a small building used for firefighter training, a council-approved raise for Koch in 2017 and the transfer of three vacation days to Snowgren in 2018. The investigation into those incidents continues.
