Officials in Lake City have approved conceptual plans for major repairs to the streets and sidewalks near downtown and are working to identify how they will pay for that work. Administrator, Eric Wood, say the council has contracted ISG, an engineering and architectural firm out of Storm Lake, to help manage the project. He says their plan at this point is for street repairs, intersection updates and sidewalk replacement to all occur around the same time.

The combined projects are estimated to cost over $900,000. In December of last year, the city council identified these items as budget priorities for Fiscal Year (FY) 2020. According to Wood, the council had originally wanted the work to include additional areas, but budget constraints caused them to focus on the areas most in need of improvements.

Wood says city leaders put their full support behind the proposed renovations during a meeting last week.

The project is slated to go out to bid sometime this fall. It is unclear at this time how long it would take for the work to be completed once started.
