Carroll Firefighters Thank The Public For Supporting Fundraiser That Raised Funds For New Bunker Gear

Members of the Carroll Volunteer Fire Department put together a wish list several years ago. Chief, Greg Schreck, says they have been using funds raised at their annual Firemen’s Ball to help tick off items ever since.

Schreck says the City of Carroll purchased two sets, one for him and one for the assistant Chief. The firemen themselves earned enough to purchase 33 more.

At a little over $2,000 each, this purchase, he says, has kept that more than $60,000 off the city’s tax roll. The new gear is made from the latest fire-resistant technology and Schreck says it is more lightweight and flexible than the old suits. There is a surprisingly high price tag to outfit each firefighter with not only these clothing items, but with the other equipment needed to battle even the smallest fire.

Schreck says they are currently working on getting some grants to meet their next equipment need, new air packs. They will also likely be adding GPS technology in the future that will help them keep tabs on the location of each fireman on a scene. He adds they will be keeping some of the old bunker gear after working to remove residue from the fabrics.
