Lake City – Helen Snyder, 83, died Sunday, April 21, 2019 in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lake City. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.
Helen was born on September 22, 1935 in Early, Iowa, to Leo and Helen (Yender) Dahm. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School, in Early in 1953 then completed Teacher’s College at Briar Cliff College. On June 20, 1959, Helen married Lenny Snyder at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. She worked as a teacher, and then as an office manager at State Farm Insurance where Lenny was an agent. Helen was active in several groups at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, she taught her boys to hunt and fish and she attended all of her boys’ activities while they were growing up, she was a member of Monday Club, card club and she loved spending time at the lake with her family and friends.
Helen is survived by her sons Rick (Rhonda) of Ankeny, Ron (Christine) of Dell Rapids, SD; grandchildren Melanie (Ed) McCoy of Overland Park, KS, Janelle (Justin) McGuinty of Ankeny, IA, Nicole Snyder (Nick Hugo) of Fargo, SD, and Lexi Snyder (Justin Ahlers) of Brookings, SD; Great grandsons: Max and Eli McCoy of Overland Park, KS; sisters Mary Johnson of Early, Ruth (Ken) Boes of Columbia, MO, and Bonnie (Ben) Fonseca of Aurora, CO; siblings-in-law LaVern Snyder of Schaller, Wilmer “Red” (Judy) Snyder of Auburn, Elvira Kitt of Templeton, and Algene “Snort” (Barb) Snyder of Carroll and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lenny; grandson Lee; brothers Leo and Betty Dahm, and Joe Dahm; and siblings-in-law Jerry Johnson, Orville and Myrna Snyder, Alice Snyder, Eugene Snyder, and John Kitt.
Memorials may be left to St Mary’s Catholic Church or Veterans Outreach Center.
