Since 1975, the Carroll Knights of Columbus has donated more than $135,000 to New Hope. They have now focused on raising funds for an accessible, recreational swing during this year’s 44th annual Phone-A-Thon. The two-bay swing has a molded seat and a wheelchair platform, allowing those of all abilities to play. It will be constructed on a concrete base next to the gazebo behind New Hope’s Activity Building. Director of Development for New Hope, Jodie Jansen, says they are very fortunate to have the continued support of the Knights Of Columbus and that this purchase contributes to their mission of enriching the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. “What’s unique about this project is that it’s actually one of our clients who helped come up with the idea of installing a swing here,” Jansen says. “This type of swing will allow those who use wheelchairs to enjoy the recreational swing right alongside their counterparts.” This year’s Knights of Columbus Phone-A-Thon was led by Grand Knight, Steve Anthofer, and co-chairmen, Rich Ortner and Dan Messerich.
