A Jefferson man was arrested on a variety of charges after leaving the scene of a minor car accident Friday. The Jefferson Police Department reports they were called to the 100 block of East Madison Street at approximately 8:57 p.m. A resident, David Goin, told the officer a 1995 Ford Escort he owned was parked on the street and another vehicle backed into it, then left the area. Witness reports led the officer to the other vehicle involved, a 1998 Chevrolet 2500, owned by Nathan Merrill. Merrill admitted he was involved, though there was no damage to his vehicle. However, warrants were requested for Merrill following the report on charges of driving while revoked, a serious misdemeanor, operating a vehicle without the required interlock device and unsafe backing upon a highway, both simple misdemeanors. There was only $200 damage done to the Goin vehicle.
