Coon Rapids Man Wanted On Multiple Warrants Makes Initial Appearance In District Court

A Coon Rapids man wanted on multiple criminal charges in Carroll County has made an initial appearance in district court. Twenty-three-year-old Joshuah Jay Blumberg was taken into custody at the Guthrie County jail by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday on an outstanding arrest warrant. Blumberg is charged with control of a firearm by a felon, a class D felony, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from a consent search executed by the Coon Rapids Police Department at his residence in the 900 block of Bridge Street on March 14. During their initial search, authorities located an orange pill bottle containing a substance believed to be marijuana, a smoking device and a .22 caliber rifle. A follow up search was conducted later that day and law enforcement found additional illicit materials, including a white, crystalline substance; suspected marijuana seeds; drug paraphernalia; and a tan duffel bag containing over 40 shotgun shells. Blumberg was released from the Carroll County jail Tuesday on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on May 30 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty of the charges, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $11,250 in fines.
