Storm Lake Man Held Without Bond On Multiple Charges For Fleeing From Authorities Friday Morning

A Storm Lake man was taken into custody early Friday morning on multiple charges after fleeing from law enforcement. At approximately 12:45 a.m., an officer with the Storm Lake Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle in the 200 block of West 6th Street. The driver, 24-year-old Everardo Manriquez Mendoza, refused to yield to the officer’s emergency lights and took off through the west end of Storm Lake. Manriquez Mendoza proceeded onto Highway 7 before losing control and driving into the ditch about a half-mile west of Highway 110. After taking him into custody, authorities determined Manriquez Mendoza was wanted on multiple Buena Vista County warrants, including failure to appear on two counts of driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, and one count of third-offense possession of a controlled substance, a class D felony. Police allege the vehicle he was driving had been stolen from a residence in Alta. Manriquez Mendoza was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on the outstanding warrants and has also been charged with driving while barred, operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and eluding, all aggravated misdemeanors, and multiple traffic violations. He remains in custody without bond. The Storm Lake Police Department K9 Unit and Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office assisted during the incident.
