Friday’s Carroll County Relay For Life Raises An Additional $17,000 In Only A Few Hours, Bringing The Running Total To Over $120,000

The fundraising totals for the 2019 Carroll County Relay for Life have been tallied, bringing the running total to $121,802. During opening ceremonies on Friday evening, Kim Durst, a relay specialist with the American Cancer Society (ACS), announced they were moving into the main event with approximately $105,000 raised so far. Over the course of only a few hours, cancer survivors, family, friends and the Carroll County community raised an additional $17,000. Kimberly Preston, a volunteer, says this level of support really highlights the message of the Relay: hope.

According to Durst, a lot of time still remains yet this year for teams to push the total even higher. Co-chairs for this year’s Relay were Andy and Kate Reiman and Brad and Brigit Pick. This was the final year for the Reimans, and Pick says he and Brigit have already starting searching for new 2020 co-chairs.

Carroll has consistently placed near the top in the nation in per capita fundraising. Durst says it is too early to say for sure, but with numbers like they saw, it is likely they will place high on the list again. She says raising lots of money to fight cancer and help survivors is always wonderful, but it is not the only objective of the Relay.
