Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered all state flags in Iowa to half-staff tomorrow (Tuesday) to mark the interment of former United States Supreme Court Justice, John Paul Stevens. The order was issued in conjunction with an order from President Donald Trump to lower all U.S. flags from sunrise to sunset on July 23. Stevens was appointed to the nation’s highest court in 1975 by President Gerald Ford and served until his voluntary retirement in 2010. He died on July 16 at 99 years of age. Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building, on flag displays in the Capital Complex and on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state for his burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
