Guns And Drugs Found After Authorities Defuse Tense Situation In Jefferson

A potentially deadly situation was defused Friday evening when a family member reported a suicidal male was holed up in a Jefferson residence. The call came in to the Jefferson Police Department at approximately 8:42 p.m. and officers were told that the 11-year-old son of the man was also in the home. Threats had been made against the male’s life and that of the child. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol also responded, and authorities were able to coax the man out of the house after several minutes. He was transported to the Greene County Medical Center for evaluation. A sweep of the home uncovered 16 firearms, including two fully-loaded handguns. These were removed and placed in the custody of a family member. The officers also located narcotics and paraphernalia in plain sight all over the residence. These items were confiscated and sent for testing. Future charges are pending those results.
