Marcella Cook of Wall Lake

Marcella Marie (Neppl) Cook, age 100 of Wall Lake, Iowa passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2019.  Marcella was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1918, in Estherville, Iowa to Anna (Bachman) and Joseph Neppl. The eldest of four children, she was joined by siblings Marcus, Alma and Lillian. The family moved to Wall Lake in 1928, following the death of her father. Marcella graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1937.
A devout Catholic, Marcella was baptized and confirmed in the faith. She married Roy Cook on January 29, 1942, at St. Joseph’s parish in Wall Lake. The couple was blessed with three children: Mark LaRoy, Noel Dean, and Janice Ann. Marcella and Roy settled south of Wall Lake where they farmed until retirement in 1980. She was known for her famous lunches during haying time which always included cake, sandwiches and great coffee.
Marcella enjoyed spending time with her family and most days shared breakfast with her sons, Mark and Noel. She talked on the phone each day with her daughter, Janice, and could often be found enjoying afternoon tea parties with her sisters. On Sundays after Mass, she hosted coffee and rolls for her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Marcella enjoyed music and could always be counted on for a dance.
A centenarian, Marcella has experienced 100 years of a life well lived and loved. Her humor and sharp wit will be missed by her family.
Marcella is survived by her sister Lillian Schroeder; children Noel (Elaine) Cook of Wall Lake, Iowa and Janice (David) McChesney of Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Cathy Cook (Rick Vetter) of Wall Lake, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Justin Cook (Valerie Merchant) and McKinze Cook (Sean Fredericks) of Portland, Oregon; Haley Cook of Ames, Iowa; Alissa (Corey) Blair of Treynor, Iowa; Kellen Cook of Urbandale, Iowa; Lexie (Colin) Ryan of Lawton, Iowa; Damon Cook of Wall Lake; and Michael and Scott McChesney of Lincoln, Nebraska; four great-grandchildren: Autumn, Caidah and Graysen Blair and Addison Fredericks; many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son Mark; sister Alma Bluml; and brother Marcus Neppl.
 
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake, IA. Visitation will be Friday evening 4-7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will take place at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Wall Lake, IA.
