CCSD Board Of Education Approves Bid For New Speakers In CHS Gymnasium

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education unanimously approved a bid during their July meeting to install a new sound system in the high school gymnasium. Building and Grounds Supervisor, Jeff Dvorak, presented two proposals, one from Daktronics for $18,000 and another from DB Acoustics for $38,700. Dvorak pointed out Daktronics’ bid came in well below the other, but DB’s bid is far higher quality and includes more equipment.

DB Acoustics has completed sound system installations at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), Drake University’s Knapp Center and numerous high school gyms and auditoriums, and Dvorak is confident in their work. The existing system was put in about five years ago, and he said it has caused issues since it was installed.

Board members asked Director of Business Affairs, Gary Bengtson, if the district can afford to make the purchase. According to him, they can use the excess funds raised for the videoboard and money left over from summer projects.

Dvorak added that they also intend to repurpose the older speakers once the new ones are installed.

The board opted to select DB Acoustics’ bid and expects to have the new system installed before the start of the 2019-2020 school year.
