Carroll’s Newest Police Officer Brings 20 Years Of Experience To The Department

Carroll Police Chief, Brad Burke, says the department has had an officer transfer to work with the Iowa State Patrol, and has introduced the newest member of the force, Brian Mentzer, who has filled that vacated position. Burke says he is looking forward to a point when they will not be working to recruit or train new officers.

Mentzer had spent 20 years with the Sac City Police Department, and it was an opportunity for his children that brought him to seek out the Carroll position.

Mentzer’s wife, Karen, also works for the City of Carroll as an administrative assistant. The couple was able to quickly sell their Sac City home and have already moved and gotten settled in here in Carroll. Burke has Mentzer on the fast-track training program because of his previous experience and certification, but Mentzer says there are a couple of things he is focusing in on during his orientation period.

The Mentzer’s have two daughters, Brooke is eight and Bridget is five.
