Templeton Volunteer Fire Chief, Duane Irlbeck, says his firefighters were dispatched at approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday, July 28 to a blaze at a single-family residence in the 200 block of South 3rd Street in Templeton. He says nobody was home at the time, but the entire first story of the house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Three other departments were also dispatched to the scene.

Irlbeck says there were no hotspots or flare-ups and he personally went back a few hours after the rest of the crew left to check on the site. He says the challenge they faced was the fact that it was an older structure with several different additions.

The fire was found to have originated in the kitchen of the home, but the exact cause has not been released. The incident will be investigated by the homeowner’s insurance company and the state Fire Marshal will be called in if needed during that investigation.
