The 69th annual Operation T-Bone begins tomorrow (Friday) in Audubon. The festival is rooted in Audubon County’s strong agricultural economy, particularly its beef producers, and dates back to 1951. According to the T-Bone Committee’s Wagon Master, Duane Sloss, it all started as an effort to promote the area’s cattle industry and grew from there.

The celebration begins at 5 p.m. Friday with an old-fashioned picnic in Albert the Bull park, followed by figure eight races at the fairgrounds at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m. Brian Bruch is one of the many people helping to organize Operation T-Bone, and he says Saturday really picks up the pace with activities from 7 a.m. through midnight.

The main portion of Operation T-Bone ends on Sunday with a breakfast fundraiser and open house at the fire station from 7 a.m. to noon, but Bruch says they do have several events left before they can consider this year’s celebration finished.
