Man Found With 15-Inch Knife During Traffic Stop Faces Misdemeanor Weapons Charge

Formal charges have been filed in District Court for Carroll County against a Sioux City man arrested for possessing a 15-inch knife during a traffic stop. According to court records, 36-year-old Trevor Martin Matheny faces one count of carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor. The charge stems from an incident in Manning on July 8. At approximately 5:15 p.m., an officer with the Manning Police Department pulled over Matheny for driving without a license plate and located the large knife in a bag on the front passenger seat. In Iowa, it is illegal to conceal carry a knife with a blade over five inches without a permit. Matheny’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8 at the Carroll County Courthouse. If found guilty, he faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and $6,250 in fines.
