A Des Moines woman accused of stealing from two Carroll businesses on three separate occasions has been sentenced to probation after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. According to district court records, 28-year-old Meggan Anne Richards pled guilty to one count of third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, and two counts of fourth-degree theft, serious misdemeanors. On Thursday, Aug. 15, Richards was ordered to pay more than $2,000 in fines and surcharges and over $600 in restitution. In lieu of a four-year prison sentence, she was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. The charges stemmed from a series of thefts from March through May of this year at the Carroll Bomgaars and Walmart. Trials are still pending in Carroll County District Court against three other individuals involved in these thefts: 30-year-old Melodie Jane Erickson, 28-year-old William Raymone Fees of Altoona and 28-year-old Justin Earl St. Pierre of Creston.
