Gov. Kim Reynolds announced today (Thursday) the appointment of a Crawford County judge to the Iowa Court of Appeals. Julie Schumacher, of Schleswig, currently serves in Judicial Election District 3B, which includes Sioux, Plymouth, Woodbury, Ida, Monona and Crawford Counties. She previously served as an associate district judge, assistant Crawford County attorney and assistant Denison city attorney. She also practiced law privately for nearly 20 years. Schumacher earned her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and law degree from Creighton University School of Law. Schumacher is filling a vacancy in Iowa’s intermediate appellate court created by the retirement of Court of Appeals Chief Judge, Gayle Nelson Vogel of Spirit Lake.
