Marian Schmitz, age 89, of Arcadia, died Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2p.m. Friday, August 30, 2019, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Pick. Music will be by Sharon Bierl, and the St. John’s Choir. Lector will be Linda Spangrud. Gift Bearers will be Janet Krueger, Lisa Ahmann, and Sandy Kamphoff. Eucharistic Ministers will be Jane Ahmann, Betty Schmitz, and Randy Schmitz. Casket Bearers will be Nancy and Dale Schmitz, Mary and Oran Kohorst, Bonnie and Steve Schmitz, Randy Schmitz, Tim Schmitz, David Ahmann, and Tom Schmitz. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held at St. John’s Church from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, and online condolences may be left for Marian’s family at www.sharpfuneral.com.
Marian Theresa Schmitz was born in Carroll, Iowa to Theodore “Fritz” and Barbara (Schenkelberg) Schmitz on September 19, 1929. Marian attended St. John’s Catholic School, and graduated from St. Angela Academy in 1947. She went to work for the Jung family at Jung’s Bakery, and also managed their apartments and farm bookkeeping. She did a radio program for Jung’s Bakery twice weekly. She was lector at St. John’s Church in Arcadia for many years. She was also a member of St. Joh’s Sodality, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Marian enjoyed life. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, bowling, playing cards, tending her flowers and vegetable garden and going to the casino with friends and family. Marian loved people, especially her nieces and nephews.
Marian is survived by her siblings: Clair (Leona) Schmitz of Carroll, and Jane Ahmann of Wayne, Nebraska, as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives, and many friends. Marian was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Elmer “Porky” Schmitz, Hubert John “Jack” Schmitz, Eugene “Butch” Schmitz; sister-in-law: Eileen Schmitz, brother-in-law: Mark Ahmann; sister-in-law: Gladys Schmitz.
