Carolyn “Sue” Johnson, age 79, of Carroll, IA, formerly of Greenfield, IA, died at her home in Carroll on Thursday, September 12, 2019 surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carroll with Rev. Rikki Sorensen officiating. Soloist will be B.J. Ukena. Lector for the service will be Jean Haviland and a special reading will be given by Stephanie Brincks. Pall bearers will be Greg Johnson, Tony Puffett, Andy Ramaekers, and Steve Brincks. Honorary pall bearers will be Ben Johnson, Josh Johnson, James Puffett, and Nate Ramaekers. Gift bearers will be Suzy Puffett, Laryn Johnson, Mallory Ramaekers, and Kate Ramaekers. Private family interment will be in the Grand River Cemetery in Greenfield, IA.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 5 – 7 P.M. on Tuesday evening. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 – 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Sue was born on December 8, 1939 in Grand River Township in Adair County, IA, and was the daughter of Clarence “Andy” Anderson and Ruby (Gerkin) Anderson. Sue attended country school and later graduated from Greenfield high school in 1957, where she met the love of her life, Norman “LeRoy” Johnson. Sue was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Greenfield, and later joined Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Carroll where they raised their family. Later LeRoy and Sue returned to their Presbyterian roots. When she was in high school she was involved in vocal music, church, choir, and band. She was the photography editor for the high school yearbook and participated in many school plays. Shortly after high school, Sue and LeRoy were married on July 7, 1957 at the First Presbyterian Church, in Greenfield, IA. They moved to Denver, Colorado while LeRoy was called to active duty. Together they were blessed with 5 children. Sue worked for Witt True Value, Fullerton Lumber Company, New Holland Implement in Carroll, and retired from Garst / Syngenta Seed Company. Sue and LeRoy were Girl Scout parents, and very active members of the church. She enjoyed hosting circle meetings, she was an avid reader, loved cooking, camping, and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include; her husband of 62 years, LeRoy Johnson of Carroll; four children: Jeanne and Steve Brincks of Carroll, Greg Johnson of Carroll, Noelle and Tony Puffett of Cherokee, and Amy and Andy Ramaekers of Carroll, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also, one brother, Kurt and Janet Anderson of California.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Ruby Anderson, her in-laws Leonard and Nora Johnson, her brother in-law Alan Johnson, a daughter Kim Melanie in infancy, and a nephew Adam Anderson.
