The September meeting of the Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education is scheduled for the beginning of next week. It will be their first meeting since the beginning of classes on Friday, Aug. 23, and they will start with a short meet-and-greet with the district’s new instructors. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says it is almost always helpful for board members and staff to be familiar with one another.

The board will then move on to review business office reports, including the Certified Annual Report for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019, which concluded on June 30. Historically, the district has shown a strong fiscal position at the end of each year, and Berlau expects this report will show that trend is continuing.

A large portion of the agenda contains the second reading of about a dozen board policies. One of these policies concerns increasing rental costs for the district’s facilities and will result in Kuemper paying a larger fee to use the football stadium than it has in the past. Berlau says it now costs the district significantly more when events are hosted at the new facility.

Berlau adds the district spends between $500 and $700 per week to host a high school football game each Friday, and that does not include water, sewer or electricity expenses. He says they have and are continuing to stay in contact with Kuemper administrators as they work to update the rental policy. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16 at the Adams Elementary School boardroom. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
