Storm Lake Man Charged With Multiple Drug Offenses Sentenced In Carroll County District Court

A Storm Lake man charged with multiple drug-related offenses in District Court for Carroll County was sentenced Monday. According to court records, 26-year-old Jaime Hernandez reached an agreement with prosecutors and pled guilty to second-offense possession of methamphetamine and third-offense possession of marijuana, aggravated misdemeanors. A judge ordered Hernandez to serve two, two-year prison terms, both suspended, and placed him on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. If ever served, the prison terms are to be served consecutively with credit for time served. Nearly $1,700 in fines and surcharges were also suspended, and one count of driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Hernandez was originally charged with third-offense possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver, both class D felonies, following his arrest by the Manning Police Department on March 24 near the intersection of Highways 71 and 141. Authorities say he was found in possession of more than a half ounce of marijuana, packaging materials, a scale and a glass pipe, which tested positive for methamphetamine residue.
