Gov. Reynolds And Senator Grassley Say Speaker Upmeyer Has Been Instrumental In Iowa’s Successes

U.S. Senator, Chuck Grassley, is resting at home following an outpatient hernia surgery on Monday and is expected to return to work later this week. This did not stop him, however, from commenting on the announcement that Iowa House Speaker, Linda Upmeyer, will not run for re-election. Grassley served with Upmeyer’s father, Del Stromer, in the Iowa state legislature, and he said the apple did not fall far from that tree. “With the grit of an Iowa farm girl, she relished hard work,” Grassley said. Following her election she worked to help her neighbors, upheld her Iowa values, built opportunities and solved many problems in her 17 years. “Linda became the first woman in Iowa history to be elected Speaker of the Iowa House in 2015. Under her tenure the state of Iowa has grown a budget surplus and continues record-low unemployment. She has served with honor, grace and integrity. She is a class act,” Grassley said. Iowa Gov., Kim Reynolds, said Upmeyer is a talented and tenacious legislator and she has worked hand-in-hand with her to tackle the most important issues facing Iowa. “We passed the largest tax cut in Iowa history, secured historic investments for preK-12 education, implemented comprehensive mental health reform and fought to protect the lives of the unborn,” said Reynolds. “Linda will be remembered as a remarkable public servant who helped move Iowa in a better direction.”
