Local Football Fans To Come Together Friday Night In Support Of Cancer Patients And Research

Local football fans are joining forces this week to support cancer patients and raise funds for cancer research. On Friday, Oct. 4, Coon Rapids-Bayard (CR-B) travels to Audubon, and both schools will be participating in a Coaches vs. Cancer event during the game, which begins at 7 p.m. Organizers will be holding a live auction for footballs signed by the Audubon and CR-B teams with all proceeds being donated to Relay for Life. Each fan base will also participate in a friendly competition during halftime where a bucket will be passed through the stands on each side of the field to see who can raise the most in just two minutes. Organizers are also asking fans to bring cans of Play-Doh to the game, which will be collected and donated to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. Two Coon Rapids children diagnosed with cancer, Gage Carlson and Emma King, will serve as kid captains for the Crusaders. Rather than sport their team’s colors, fans are encouraged to wear the color of a cancer type that has touched their lives.
