Pheasant season is just over two weeks away, and Carroll County Pheasants Forever is inviting adolescent hunters to join in their annual youth hunt. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, the opening day of youth season, at the AVAD Hunt Club, which is located about five miles west of Coon Rapids on Highway 141. The hunt is open to local youth between the ages of 12 and 15 years old and have completed the state-mandated hunter education course. There is no charge to take part in the youth hunt, however, attendees must provide their own shotgun and shells and be accompanied by a licensed adult. Activities begin at 8 a.m. at the hunt club with coffee, juice, donuts and guide assignments. At 8:15 a.m., participants will gather for a brief safety seminar and trap shoot. Groups will hunt from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a 30-minute break at 10:30 a.m. The youth hunt concludes with a group lunch at the AVAD Hunt Club. For more information or to register, contact any Carroll County Pheasants Forever member or the Carroll County Conservation office.
