William “Bill” Henry Gregory of Glidden

William “Bill” Henry Gregory, age 87, of Glidden passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Glidden United Methodist Church with Rev. Lorinda Hoover officiating.  Music for the service will be by Mary Ross.  Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Glidden American Legion.  Honorary pall bearers will be Bill’s grandchildren: Katie Halouska, Scott Gregory, Morgan Stark, Mitchell Stark, and Sarah Stark.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden at a later date.

Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 A.M. on Saturday until 10:45 A.M.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Glidden and online condolences may be left for the family at www.dahnandwoodhouse.com.

Born on July 30, 1932 in Carroll, IA, he was the son of George and Evelyn (McCullugh) Gregory.  He grew up on his family’s farm near Ralston and graduated from Glidden High School in 1949.  Following high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served two years.  Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Ralston.  Bill was united in marriage to Joy Solt on June 7, 1952.  The couple made their home in Ralston where they raised their two children: Dennis and Nancy.  Bill worked for West Central Coop for several years before moving to West Des Moines for eight years where he worked for Cargill as a grain elevator superintendent.  They moved to Glidden in 1973 and Bill went back to work for West Central.  Bill and Joy loved spending time at their lake home in Lake View.  He enjoyed woodworking, going to his grandchildren’s events, and spending time with his family.

Bill is survived by his wife Joy of Glidden; his son Dennis Gregory (Lori) of Glenwood, IA; his daughter Nancy Stark (Dick) of Breda; five grandchildren: Katie Halouska (Shane) of Rapids City, SD, Scott Gregory (Hannah) of Roseau, Dominica, Morgan Stark of Breda, Mitchell Stark of Lake View, and Sarah Stark of Breda; two great-grandchildren: Matthew and Emilia Halouska; a sister Ruth Johnson of Glidden; three brothers: Robert Gregory (Mary Ann) of Ralston, Bud Gregory of Medford, OR, and Raymond Gregory of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents George and Evelyn Gregory; and his mother and father-in-law Roy and Beatrice Solt.
