Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) will be expanding registered apprenticeship opportunities in Iowa thanks to additional funding from the federal Apprenticeship State Expansion grant. A broad range of organizations and industry associations are eligible to utilize these grants, including healthcare, advanced manufacturing and construction. Funding can be used to support related training instruction, wages for on-the-job apprentices and mentors and support services. Awards will be determined based on the total number of registered apprentices: $75,000 for 60, $150,000 for 120 and $300,000 for 240. The program prioritizes efforts that increase participation of women, youth, minorities, veterans and people with disabilities. Applications are due to IWD by 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
