Jeep Is A Total Loss After Hitting Bridge Near Jefferson On Icy Road Tuesday

An icy road resulted in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday on Highway 30 west of Jefferson. A Jefferson Police Officer responded to the scene at the Raccoon River Bridge at approximately 1:45 a.m. A 2005 Jeep Liberty, driven by 36-year-old Christopher David Murphy of Jefferson, was eastbound when he hit a patch of ice at the bridge. Murphy lost control and the vehicle hit both sides of the structure before coming to rest against the south guardrail. The Jeep was a total loss and the bridge sustained approximately $200 in damages. Murphy was checked out at the scene by Greene County Emergency Medical Services and released. He has been charged with failure to maintain control.
