Officials in Lake City voted at last week’s meeting to approve an ordinance change that increases wages for council members and the mayor. According to Administrator, Eric Wood, council members have been paid $25 per meeting for years, and an increase was long overdue. Under the new ordinance, each person on the council will now be paid $50 per meeting, excluding the mayor. Unlike many nearby communities, Lake City’s mayor does not receive a monthly stipend. Instead, they receive an annual salary of $2,400. The ordinance change upped the mayor’s compensation to $3,600 per year. Wood suggested the adjustments to the council’s pay were to encourage more residents to consider running for elected office in future elections.
