A Carroll man faces charges in District Court for Carroll County for allegedly stealing property from a home while completing work inside the residence. According to court records, 49-year-old Matthew Wayne Dierenfeld was issued a summons to appear on third-degree theft and unauthorized use of a credit card, both aggravated misdemeanors. An investigation by the Carroll Police Department found Dierenfeld was hired to finish a project at the residence in the 700 block of North Court Street. While working there sometime between Sept. 1 to Oct. 23, authorities allege he took property valued at over $750 and a credit card, which he later used at a local convenience store. Some of the property was later found in Dierenfeld’s home. He is scheduled for an initial appearance at the courthouse on Friday, Nov. 7. An aggravated misdemeanor in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison and $6,250 in fines.
