Final Numbers For East Sac County School Board Election In, But We Now Have A Tie In A Carroll County Election

We have two anomalies coming out of Tuesday’s election, one of which has now been resolved and the other that will have to go to the Carroll County Board of Supervisors before it will be settled. The school board election for East Sac County Community Schools had been published in two locations by the Secretary of State’s Office. The votes cast by Sac County residents only were tabulated and reported on the Sac County election page. The totals that included voters from Crawford and Carroll Counties was reported in a section designated for school elections only. The problem was that the names were listed in a different order on the two reports, but the numbers stayed in the same columns. This meant that there were different winners showing on the separate pages. The Sac County Auditor’s Office contacted the Secretary of State and has now resolved the issue. The final, unofficial results have Laurie Kluver receiving 1,272 votes and 21.05 percent of the vote, Jackie Mahler sitting with 20.33 percent at 1,229 votes and Mark Jansma winning a seat with 1,159 votes representing 19.18 percent. These three will be filling the three open spots on the East Sac Board. The Carroll County Auditor’s Office reported this (Wednesday) morning that there has been a tie declared in the Willey mayoral race. Both candidates were write-ins on the ballot, and John Guinan and Kristen Nehring received 17 votes each. In the event of a tie, the rules state the board of supervisors will draw lots to identify the winner. The result of the drawing will then be entered on the abstract of votes and a certificate of election will be sent to the declared winner. These and all other results are available on our website. Simply click on the election banner and select the race of your choice.
